Sautéed mushrooms with garlic are a classic and delicious side dish. Here’s a simple recipe to make them:
Ingredients:
- 1 lb (450g) mushrooms (button, cremini, or your favorite type), cleaned and sliced
- 2-3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp olive oil or butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: a splash of white wine, fresh herbs (like thyme or parsley), or a squeeze of lemon juice
Instructions:
-
Heat the Pan: Place a large skillet or frying pan over medium-high heat and add the olive oil or butter.
-
Sauté the Mushrooms: Once the oil or butter is hot, add the sliced mushrooms. Spread them out in a single layer to ensure they cook evenly. Let them cook undisturbed for about 2-3 minutes to develop a nice golden-brown color.
-
Stir and Cook: Stir the mushrooms and continue to cook for another 5-7 minutes, or until they are browned and have released their moisture. Stir occasionally.
-
Add Garlic: Push the mushrooms to the side of the pan and add the minced garlic. Cook for about 1 minute, until fragrant, making sure not to let the garlic burn.
-
Season: Season with salt and pepper to taste. If you’re using white wine, pour a splash into the pan now and let it cook off for a minute or two.
-
Finish: If desired, add a squeeze of lemon juice or a sprinkle of fresh herbs. Give everything a final stir to combine.
-
Serve: Serve the mushrooms hot as a side dish, over pasta, or as a topping for steak or other dishes.
Enjoy your flavorful sautéed mushrooms!
